Smoking ban will affect AG 2010

Michigan's statewide smoking ban will go into effect in May 2010. The ban applies to all bars, restaurants and workplaces; exceptions have been made for cigar bars, tobacco specialty stores, home offices, motor vehicles and three Detroit casinos. This ban is believed to affect even outdoor seating areas at restaurants such as the ones at the Fairlane Mall near the AG. The Hyatt has stated that they expect to be fully nonsmoking by the time of the AG, and the Ritz-Carlton is already fully nonsmoking.

Opening bell announced for AG10

Wondering exactly when the fun officially begins? AG registration will open at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 30, with most programming to begin an hour later. If you're coming in earlier, however, never fear — Mensans usually have no problem finding each other for impromptu get-togethers and outings.

AG records its 1,000th registration

In early December — almost one month before the next rate increase — AG10 passed the milestone of 1,000 registrants. In celebration, the AG10 Committee awarded a $30 AG credit to Alabama Mensan Cheryl W.; she reports this will be her first AG. Congratulations, Cheryl; we're sure you'll have a great time!

Doubles completely booked at Hyatt;
Ritz-Carlton unveiled as AG10 overflow hotel

The AG10 Committee has received word from the Hyatt Regency Dearborn that all its rooms with double beds are reserved for the nights of June 30 through July 4 (in other words, the duration of the AG). Only rooms with king beds are now available there.

Not to worry; the AG10 Committee has arranged for the AG room rate of $107 per night at The Ritz-Carlton Dearborn, located at the northeast corner of the Fairlane Town Center complex. The Hyatt is located within sight at the southeast corner. Like the Hyatt, the Ritz-Carlton features sumptuous rooms, excellent dining and free self-parking. Get more information

AG10 smashes early-registration record

Riding a wave of excitement for the 50th anniversary of Mensa in North America and enthusiasm from AG09, a record number of Mensans took advantage of the lowest, early-registration rate. As of Aug. 1, the 2010 Annual Gathering had 844 registrants.

At the moment, that number has increased to more than 900, and the AG10 Committee is preparing to host what is expected to be one the largest AGs. Who knows how many will be on board by the next registration-rate cutoff on Dec. 31?

Have you registered and reserved your hotel room yet?
